The upgrade of configuration settings was broken in CodeSmith 5.1.6.

You might be asking, why we would do such a horrible thing? The answer is simple: most of your data is automatically imported over time when using CodeSmith. For example, the connection string information is automatically imported when you load up a CodeSmith Project file. Also, any settings that you wish to change can be done so in one or two clicks in the new configuration user interface.

Overtime we have stored our configuration settings in many different storage mediums. This has made it difficult to upgrade effectively from CodeSmith 3.0 to CodeSmith 5.1. From now on all configuration settings will be converted with ease and never lost. It will also be easy for you to go in and make custom changes as the configuration is now stored in the registry.

You will find that with this breaking change there have been many more benefits that outweigh the breaking changes. Since CodeSmith depends heavily on configuration, every operation inside of CodeSmith has increased in execution speed. From starting up, to generating a template, you will notice a difference!
